Torture prevention

Torture is about a pervasive abuse of power, in prisons and police stations but also in migrant or juvenile detention centres, psychiatric institutions etc.

The risk of torture and other forms of ill-treatment exists everywhere, in all parts of the world. This risk increases in closed environments, in places out of public view.

The APT works to strengthen legal and policy frameworks against torture, to improve detention practices and to strengthen public oversight of places of deprivation of liberty.

Preventing torture, making it work: In this short video APT's Secretary General Mark Thomson and other international experts explain why torture must be prevented.
